Scott County, Iowa Inmate Search

Navigating the Scott County legal system after a loved one’s arrest can feel overwhelming, especially when unfamiliar with the process. Still, while multiple police agencies handle arrests throughout the county-including the Davenport and Bettendorf PDs in the county’s largest urban areas-finding where an arrestee is being held is usually a matter of contacting the arresting agency or the Scott County Sheriff’s Office directly.

The Scott County Sheriff maintains administrative oversight of the Scott County Jail. The jail serves the various law enforcement agencies of Scott County as the primary lockup, as well as the 7th Judicial District as a regional detention hub, providing primarily for adult incarceration.

For minors, Scott County operates a Youth Justice & Rehabilitation Center (YJRC), formerly the Juvenile Detention Center, for youth accused of serious criminal acts.

Therefore, to conduct an adult inmate search, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office is the designated contact. If the search concerns a juvenile, the YJRC is better equipped to answer related questions.

Crucially, none of Scott County’s detention centers hold state or federal inmates long-term. Under Iowa Code § 903.4, no person may be imprisoned in a county jail for any period exceeding one year. Accordingly, a Scott County inmate search will not reveal information about such individuals; those inquiries must be directed to the Iowa Department of Corrections or Federal Bureau of Prisons, respectively.

How to Find an Inmate in Scott County Jail

Current inmate listings for the Scott County Jail are available on the local Sheriff’s Office’s website. These listings identify everyone who has been imprisoned at the detention facility in the last seven days, enabling convenient lookups for all interested persons.

Aside from the online jail/inmate roster, an individual can also call the Sheriff’s Office at (563) 326-8625 to search for inmates, especially for older records or specific jail information. This line doubles as the detention facility’s direct line.

The Scott County Jail and Sheriff’s Office are both part of the same complex as the Scott County Courthouse at 400 West 4th Street, Davenport.

How to Use the Scott County Jail Roster

The Scott County Jail Listing (the official jail/inmate roster) is accessible on the Sheriff’s Office website as follows:

There are three ways to search the roster:

Family & friends can fund a Scott County inmate’s canteen account as follows:

  • Online: The jail contracts with a vendor to process debit or credit card deposits into an inmate’s account. Registration is required on the vendor’s website to make deposits. Deposit limits and transaction fees apply.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

Inquiries about an inmate at the Scott County Jail can be directed by phone to the local Sheriff’s Office. One can also access and search the Scott County Jail roster provided on the Sheriff’s website.

However, for inquiries into adolescent offenders, restrictions determine who has access to that information. Under Iowa Code § 232.147, juvenile delinquency records are exempt from open access, except when the act would be a forcible felony if perpetrated by an adult and the juvenile has been adjudicated delinquent.

This means only certain authorized parties-such as the juvenile’s parent, legal guardian, or attorney, as well as the court, law enforcement, and the alleged victim-are normally granted access. These individuals may contact the Youth Justice & Rehabilitation Center for information.

Scott County Visitation Rules and Schedules

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office encourages family and friends to visit with persons housed at the Scott County Jail.

Type of Visitation Available

  • The jail utilizes on-site video visitation, which may be recorded or monitored.

Scheduling

  • Inmates must first complete a Visitor Request form (specifying the visitor’s full name) for approval from the facility. Once approved, the guest must call (563) 326-8750 (Press 1 for visitation) to schedule.

Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours prior, up to seven days in advance.

If calling the jail outside visitation hours, leave a message for the visitation officer, who will return the call during visitation hours.

Mandatory Background Check

All prospective visitors must pass a criminal history check to be allowed entry into the facility. This check is completed ahead of the visit, and each person will need to provide a valid government-granted ID and a document proving their Social Security number to the visitation officer.

Visitors who have been incarcerated within the past 60 days are denied visitation.

Visiting Days and Timeslots

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Sundays and Holidays falling on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Frequency, Duration, and Maximum Visitors

  • Inmates are allowed up to two 1-hour visits each week.
  • A session can include up to three people (children included).

Underage Visitors

  • Children under 18 may visit in the company of a legal guardian or parent. The accompanying adult will need to provide documentation that verifies their relationship (e.g., guardianship paperwork or a birth certificate), and they must be one of the three approved visitors. The adult must remain with the minor at all times during the visit.

Check-In Procedures

  • Visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes before their sessions and register with the visitation officer.
  • A valid government-issued picture identification must be presented by all visitors aged 13 and over.
  • Visitors are subject to courthouse security screening to enter the visitation area.

Facility Visitation Rules

  • Eating and drinking are strictly prohibited.
  • Cell phones are banned in the visitation area and the courthouse.
  • Visitors are not allowed to touch the video screen with their hands or any other object.
  • Conservative dressing is required. Provocative, revealing, or negatively symbolic or inflammatory attire (e.g., clothing items advocating violence, drugs/alcohol, gang affiliation, or anti-government sentiment).
  • Proper conduct is mandatory, including maintaining control over one’s children, refraining from unruly or disorderly conduct, avoiding indecent or sexual acts, and leaving promptly upon completion of the session.

Violating jail rules can result in the abrupt ending of a visit, future denial from visitation, or, in extreme cases, the filing of criminal charges.

(Regarding visitation at the YJRC, check procedures on the facility’s website.)
